Randolph Gerner, AIA

Principal

As a co-founding Principal of Gerner, Kronick + Valcarcel, Architects, DPC, Randolph (Randy) Gerner is responsible for more than 10 million square feet of base building and interior design work. He has designed high profile award-winning commercial, residential, and corporate buildings, as well as retail interiors. Some of his projects include The Arc, a 413,000 square foot residential building nearing completion in Long Island City, Ten23, a residential complex adjacent to the High Line, and 2 Cooper Square in Greenwich Village.  He has worked extensively in the United States and designed projects abroad in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Many of his buildings reflect his keen interest in revitalizing Béton Brut as both a structural and decorative material.  The Beekman Residences and Hotel, an adaptive reuse project at 5 Beekman Street, a New York City Landmark, is where he converted the landmark building into a hotel and residence. The historic property was complimented by a new 600 foot tall tower designed with a decorative structural concrete façade. This project is the recipient of the Urban Land Institute’s Award of Excellence.

Another area of interest is larger scale pre-fabricated modular construction for the multi-family residential and hospitality sectors.  He has completed the design for three buildings that reflect an instinct to use an expression of a building’s structure to define its aesthetic.

His list of clients include Clarins, City Centre Properties, Savanna Real Estate Fund, Henry Schein, Inc., Viacom, MTV Networks, Sandell Asset Management, The Clarett Group, Equity Residential Properties, Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, Pershing Square Partners, Avalon Bay, Artimus, the Rockefeller Group, Pebb Capital Management and the Park Tower Group.
