BOWERY SAVINGS BANK
The Bowery Savings Bank is a historic and magnificently detailed architectural landmark located across the street from Grand Central Station in New York City. The building was constructed in the early 20th century. The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission has cited both the interior public spaces and exterior façade as an historic landmark. GKV Architects was tasked with the challenge of restoring the main lobby, public corridors and elevator cabs. The elevator cabs are designed with a custom etched-glass pattern and ornamental bronze doors based on the original design motifs. The lobby, featuring azure-tile mosaic ceiling vaults, has been carefully refurbished with new energy efficient lamping within the original chandeliers.
